Polestar is about to launch its first smartphone on the market. CEO Thomas Ingenlath announced this during an interview with CNBC. The debut will take place soon, already this December, at the same time as the first deliveries in China of the Polestar 4, an SUV Coupé electric announced halfway April which will arrive after the Asian country in Europe next year.
That of the proprietary brand of Geely does not want to be nor a provocation, nor must be read as an intention to enter into competition with the big mobile telephony brands. É rather a demonstration of how much the electric car manufacturer considers technology the central aspect of its offer: the smartphone was born from the collaboration with Meizu – which shares the parent company with Polestar.

The intention is therefore that of making the car a smartphone on four wheels for “a seamless transition”, explains the CEO. In other words, the (premium) smartphone will become an extension of the car when you are not behind the wheel, and while driving the electric car will put all the features available to the user of the smartphone. The system will be fully integrated and will presumably be based on on a ad hoc version of Flyme OS, the operating system developed by Meizu.
Polestar is not the only brand to have had this “idea”: the Chinese manufacturer Nio, for example, has already announced the imminent debut of its first smartphone, arriving this month.
