On the occasion of the BMW Motorrad Days event which took place carried out in Berlin in recent days, during which it was The new BMW CE 02 was also presented, the tuner unveiled the very special R 18 The Crown, a special based on the BMW R 18. Oehlerking recounts:
I started with a new BMW R 18 which I then disassembled. As always, I worked with foam and cardboard to create the shape, lines and design. The goal was to make a model that looks powerful, elegant and fast, all combined with an innovative look.
To create this very special special, the German tuner completely overturned the original model. The engine and rear suspension weren't touched but Dirk Oehlerking says several other items were built from scratch including a new double wishbone front suspension. The 8-litre fuel tank and the parts of the new bodywork were built by hand in aluminium.
Other elements of the special inherited from the original bike are the headlight, the instruments, the electric blocks and the platforms. Also new are the two handcrafted stainless steel exhaust manifolds. The saddle is; upholstered in genuine leather, while for the bodywork, Dirk Oehlerking chose the special Champagne Platinum tint.
