Another positive month for the Italian car market in 2023. In fact, according to data communicated by UNRAE, in June there were 138,927 registrations against the 127,232 units; of the same month last year (June 2022 had closed with a decrease of 15%). We are therefore talking about a growth of 9.2%. However, compared to the previous months, June shows a slowing growth rate. In May, for example, the Italian car market had grown by 23.1%. In April, however, it had achieved a 29.2% increase.
Looking at the first 6 months of the year, there were a total of 841,343 registrations, equal to an increase of 23% compared to the period January-June 2022 (684,262 units). However, we are still a long way from the 2019 numbers given that 242,000 registrations were lost, equal to a decrease of 22.3%. In June, the share of electrics and plug-ins grew slightly "thanks to the improved availability of the plug-ins" of product and end-of-quarter commercial practices”. Therefore, the BEV rises to 4.4% and the Plug-ins to 5.4%.
Michele Crisci, president of UNRAE, commenting on the June data, returns to talk about the need to revise the structure of incentives to accelerate the diffusion of electric cars.
As regards the 2022-24 program of incentives for the purchase of low-emission cars, UNRAE indicates the need for to repair the “distortions” contained in the scheme, by: raising the price caps and including all legal entities with full-amount bonuses; destination of the 272 million left over from the 2022 funds to the 0-20 and 21-60 g/km bands. it is important to work to accelerate the spread of the charging infrastructure.
THE MONTH OF JUNE
Going back to the data for June 2023, on the front of users, private individuals stop at 54.3%. Self-registrations, on the other hand, rose to an 8.2% share in June. Long-term rental in the month reaches 25.3% of total registrations, while short-term rental stops at 6.4% of the total. The companies share rises to 5.8% in the month.
As regards power supply, petrol models stop at 28.5% of preferences. Diesel, on the other hand, reaches 18.5% of the share. LPG drops to 8.5% and methane stops at 0.1%. Of the BEVs and PHEVs at 4.4% and 5.4% we already have; talked about at the beginning. Hybrid HEVs, on the other hand, represent 34.8% of preferences, with 9.8% for “full” hybrid and 25.0% for the “mild” hybrid.
Speaking of the automotive groups, Stellantis closed the month of June with a drop of 10.76% (Alfa Romeo 3,019/+110.53%; Citroen 4,147/- 29.70%; DS 682/+4.44%; Fiat 13,012/-22.59; Jeep 6,206/+21.12%; Lancia 4,345/+16.90%; Maserati 475/+73.36%; Opel 3,989/-23.68%; Peugeot 7,583/-20.68%). The Volkswagen Group, on the other hand, achieved +18.37% (Audi 6,532/+48.15%; Cupra 1,634/-5.06%; Lamborghini 41/+17.14%; Seat 1,275/-16.83%; Skoda 3,105/+33.55%; Volkswagen 11,414/+11.32%). Then we have the Renault Group with a growth of 1.62% (Dacia 7,801/-16.13%; Renault 7,499/+30.30%).
