Kia EV6 isn't the only thing you've ever seen. now more a novelty, officially available in Italy for about six months, embodies the first proposal of the Korean manufacturer with 800V E-GMP platform.Different twin of its cousin IONIQ 5 is proposed as an alternative to the latter with a slightly more modern look. sporty. The futuristic lines of an SUV Coupè they are certainly captivating and the technologies on board make them one of the closest competitors; interesting within its market segment. After having had it in my garage for a couple of weeks and having made it my faithful travel companion for my commute from home to work, I am therefore ready to tell you a little about it. of driving sensations and above all to reveal which one is; its consumption with an absolutely realistic use.
SPORTY YES, BUT THERE IS COMFORT
Before tell you about my experience in terms of consumption and charging I spend a few words about the design and physical characteristics of this EV6. I'll start right away by telling you that, personally, I find it really captivating in terms of design. The less angular lines and more; "sports" they also make me prefer it to its cousin IONIQ 5 which, probably, has an even more modern design; futuristic but certainly more; difficult to appreciate on a large scale.
Without going into too much detail, there's a lot to do for this. the proof published by Luigi some time ago, I can only tell you that the elements that I have most; the front full LED light clusters are certainly appreciated, with their streamlined and aggressive signature, and the particular design of the rear, where the red reflector band that ends with the brake lights helps to make the shape of the tailgate even more; impressive than it really is.

And if externally it can be; appear more sporty, the interiors are certainly devoted to comfort. As soon as we get on board we realize that the space is limited. really a lot, both front and rear, and the absence of the central tunnel, guaranteed by the use of a platform designed for electric cars, helps to make this feature even more comfortable. obvious. The assembly and materials are also very good. From the door panels to the entire dashboard, we have a mix of soft and rigid materials that are intelligently alternated to avoid any type of noise deriving from possible vibrations.
Extremely silent; therefore, and a dashboard design with a sober and futuristic air,to the point of seeming bare at times, which is; characterized by the presence of two large curved screens. The first, behind the wheel is; the one on which we have all the info related to driving, while the second, more; central, it is the one intended for infotainment. About the latter it is; to point out a small neo. There is support for Appel Carplay and Android Auto, unfortunately in both cases only in Android mode; wired.

Two notes also on the rear seats, they are very comfortable, including the one in the center which has a flat floor. ISOfix attachments, for those interested, are very easy to spot and super accessible. The presence of two air conditioning vents, one on each side, and two USB-C sockets integrated in the front seats are also good. There is also a classic 16A socket at the base of the sofa, perfect for the vacuum cleaner when you need to clean the car, or for any other use (I attached the bottle warmer to it!).
LE PERFORMANCE IS THERE, BUT THE 4WD….
Ok ok, but the performance? Let's say that, as for what concerns the preparation of the passenger compartment, the driving sensations are more; devoted to comfort and sportiness, at least as regards the two-wheel drive version we tested. The model I've ridden in these two weeks is, in fact, the one with rear-wheel drive and 229 horsepower electric motor and 350 Nm of torque.
A couple that, as for all electrics & egrave; always available instantly, and therefore still manages to guarantee good responsiveness in every situation. The 0-100 is covered in 7.5 seconds and we have a speed of 100 km. maximum speed of 185 km/h. In short, it is not; certainly the most powerful of electric cars, the all-wheel drive model, for example, improves all these data in an important way. The back kick effect was not the goal of the engineers who worked on this car during the design phase.

However, the performances remain superior to those of practically any endothermic of the same category, but if we are looking for even more thrills, we'll give you more power. strong ones, one must certainly look to the four-wheel drive model which also guarantees more dynamic driving; precise and direct.
This rear-wheel drive car is the perfect choice. decidedly more; soft in all its reactions. The suspensions are calibrated to absorb the bumps; very effectively but, on the other hand, they suffer from a little inevitable roll and, in some cases, especially on damp or wet asphalt, they lead to a slight tendency to oversteer. Nothing to worry about, you can rest assured that you won't find yourself turned around at every turn, also because it's a winding road. electronics are absolutely effective, but it is; anyway, it's fair to let you know.

Even speaking of braking, one can still improve something, especially if you don't use one-pedal driving. In braking conditions without regeneration, in fact, the pedal is a little soft in the first section and then suddenly hardens at the end of the stroke, making braking not very homogeneous. A defect that disappears by activating one-pedal driving, which is so effective that we essentially forget about the brake pedal on 95% of occasions.
Still speaking of one-pedal driving, we have the possibility of to adjust the intensity; of regenerative braking manually, or we can rely on the automatism of the car. This analyzes the traffic data collected thanks to various radars and sensors, and adjusts the intensity accordingly. of the braking with a precision I would say very good. By now I've been behind the wheel of several electric cars but it's hardly been my experience. a system calibrated so well has come across.
GOOD CONSUMPTION AND VERY FAST RECHARGE
But let's get to the point because; the comfort and adaptability are fine; of regenerative braking but this test of ours is; designed above all to actually understand how much this car consumes in what it can; be an extremely realistic daily use. For this reason, this Kia Ev6 is the perfect choice. She has been my faithful travel companion for the last two weeks and has accompanied me daily on my commute from home to work, as well as on some more outings. demanding with over 400 km covered in a single day and almost 2000 km in total.
But let's leave; from use for me more; i.e. my commuter route that takes me from Brianza every day to the office in the south of Milan. We're talking about 50 km outward and 50 km back made up of urban, extra-urban and ring roads. As with all electric cars, this EV6 also scores very different results depending on the traffic conditions. We go from a discreet 15 kWh per 100 km in flowing traffic conditions to journeys with averages that drop to almost 11 kWh per 100 kmwith intense traffic and an overall hourly average of about 35-40 km/h. Based on an average of these data and the ability to of the battery which is of 77 kWh, we are exactly in line with the range declared by Kia in the WLTP mixed cycle, ie about 530 km with a full charge.

Obviously things change on the motorway and on my round trip from Maranello in the company of Luigi with a speed; average of about 115-120 km/h, we remained on a still good 21-22 kWh per 100 km, which would lead to a distance of about 350 km with one charge. Considering the tonnage of the car: almost 4.70 meters for about 2 tons of weight, these are truly excellent fuel consumption and which substantially confirm the excellent efficiency of this platform and, more importantly, the excellent efficiency of this platform. in general of the Korean electrics of the Hyundai group.
But since it is an electric car, we cannot fail to mention recharging and here we have another excellent news. The 800V platform in fact allows the fast columns to be exploited with a peak speed; of recharge that reaches 250kWin direct current. Translated into simple words? Simple, arrived at the autogrill with about 30% autonomy, I hooked up the EV6 to a 300 kW Free toX column and just in time for a coffee; I reached 80% charge with almost 400 km of distance available. And I'm not bluffing, I'm really talking about the time for a coffee, which, adding the famous bath stop, allows you to reach the 18 minutes needed to get a charge from 10 to 80%. Needless to underline this but, compared to some time ago, this is the most important thing to do. really another travel; And with the fast-charging network expanding, travel planning is easy. almost become superfluous.
PRICE AND CONSIDERATIONS
Very good, I would say that our consumption analysis is good. sufficiently complete and above all based on a really real and very common use. But now we can only talk for a moment about the price. Unfortunately, like all cars, this Kia EV6 has also seen a price increase which, in this specific case, is a significant increase. amounted to around 10,000 euros. The starting price at launch was in fact 49,500 euros, while now the rear-wheel drive version with Air set-up is available. available at almost 59,000 euros. Net of any differences in equipment that we were unable to verify precisely, the entry point for the Kia proposal is this.
KIA CONFIGURATOR LINK
It is a lot of money, undoubtedly, but if you are interested in buying an electric car in this category, the figures for the alternatives are not they are so different. What we can tell you after this test & egrave; which, however, the E-GMP platform certainly offers very good efficiency and fast recharging effectively supported by an accumulation system capable of recharging the car very rapidly. Are there equally valid alternatives? Definitely, and some even less expensive (see Tesla Model Y).
