John Elkann, president of Stellantis, rejects the hypothesis of an entry of the Italian state in the shareholding structure of Stellantis, perhaps through the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. The proposal had begun to circulate in recent days and was also supported by Anfia, the national association of the automotive industry supply chain. The idea would be to balance the presence of the French state within Stellantis and to protect the Italian supply chain.

Elkann's answer was not true. kept waiting and during the Turin Economy Festival he said “no”. The president of Stellantis explains:

States enter companies when they are doing badly and Stellantis is doing very well. From the results we had in 2022 we are the company in absolute value; in the automotive sector which has had the best operating results; tall and in our history that was born as Fiat three centuries ago which then & egrave; evolved with FCA and today & egrave; Stellantis we have never had any need to have the State in our capital.

Elkann also wanted to directly address the question of the presence of the French State in the capital of the Group , recalling that, in the past, PSA has had difficulties with which required direct state intervention.

Our French partner had some difficulties with the project. in the years that required an intervention by the French state in that case.

The president of Stellantis also wanted to respond to minister Urso who had asked to increase car production in Italy, an issue we had just recently discussed.

I think with great pride that in recent decades we have managed to transform Italian production plants into plants that have the world as their market. If one thinks that today Jeeps are made in Basilicata, Dooges are made in Campania and sold in America, and the electric 500 that will go to the world is made in Piedmont. in America, not to mention the extraordinary work of repositioning Maserati and Alfa Romeo, which have the world as their market. The important thing is; maintain levels of competitiveness – tall. What is ‘ important is; the added value. Italy is managed to create the Motor Valley, thanks to extraordinary enterprises, of which we are proud to be a part with Maserati and Ferrari, a reality; unique in the world. I believe that reality is of the European market is very difficult, with a drop of 25% since the pre-Covid period, one car out of four is sold less. The important thing is; maintain levels of competitiveness – high and we have seen this in Europe, in a country like Spain which working on competitiveness it is managed to obtain high levels of competitiveness from the automotive industry.

Elkann also wanted to send a message to the European Union on the subject of the transition which is being discussed so much in these last times. For the president of Stellantis, faced with a challenge like this, companies need clear rules for planning investments.
