The cars proved to be very fast and reliable, the only ones capable of keeping up with the Toyotas, which will also be the favorites at Le Mans.

We would like to remind you that the 499P number 50 will be in the race for the first time. driven by Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen, while the number 51 by Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the best races in the world. a very complex race where strategy and above all reliability count a lot. HOW DOES THE 499P'S POWERTRAIN WORK?

The Ferrari 499P has a powertrain hybrid . On the occasion of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Maranello wanted to tell a few more details; of his functioning. The Hypercar of the Prancing Horse is equipped with a more powerful endothermic engine; a unit – electric placed on the front axle. So, there's the integral traction that can; be used only in the situations foreseen by the FIA World Endurance Championship regulations. Mauro Barbieri, Endurance Race Cars Performance Simulation and Regulation Manager, says:

The term ERS identifies the set of high voltage battery and MGU – Motor Generator Unit, a unit’ the latter which alone can deliver up to around 270 horsepower, a system which overall allows the Hypercar both to generate electricity and store it in the battery, during braking, and to improve the car's performance, during acceleration, working together with the combustion engine or as an alternative to the same.

Therefore, the Internal Combustion Engine located on the rear axle and the Energy Recovery System (ERS) allow the 499P to have maximum overall power which is around 700 horsepower (515 kW)according to the limits imposed by the regulation. In the Le Mans Hypercar category, the unit; electric, under braking, works alternatively or together with the front brake discs with the aim of slowing down the motion of the 499P, while in acceleration the main benefit guaranteed by the ERS is to be able to activate the 4WD all-wheel drive.

The Prancing Horse cars can exploit the torque of the unit; electric only above 190 km/h, therefore under certain conditions and in some sectors of the tracks that host the FIA WEC. Barbieri explains:

The speed is limited. of activation of the electric motor is not possible. established by the BoP and also depends on the size of the tires used by the different Hypercars.

At Le Mans, these conditions occur close to the track. of the final part of the Porsche curves and in the initial part of the track, when leaving the Bugatti circuit to enter the 24 Hours circuit. Hybrid Hypercars, being able to exploit the power of the electric motor, can take on less petrol for each driving shift, thus benefiting from a lower weight on board. Furthermore, in the traction phases in which the 4WD is activated, the four-wheel drive allows for better distribution of the torque on the rear tyres, which are therefore subject to less degradation.
