Today, FIAT celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Lingotto. It was May 22, 1923 when the car manufacturer inaugurated the this establishment which today is; a large multipurpose centre. However, the brand did not want to look only at its past but also at its future. Indeed, it showed a series of design studieswhich anticipate some of the features that future FIAT branded cars will have. The first will come; already next year.
Of the technical characteristics it is not the same. nothing was anticipated. However, Olivier Francois, CEO FIAT wanted to tell something about the design that will characterize the company. these models and that will be; inspired by the shapes of the Lingotto and its track.
At FIAT we think that the Lingotto and the track are such a point of reference that they deserve to become ‘design markers’. Their features inspired FIAT designers to draw the lines of future FIAT models, from the incredible rooftop track, to the ramp – a revolution in the 1920s – which is as a manifesto of our traditional lightness: less material, more; space, this is the our forward-looking vision of interior design. The oval shape of “La Pista 500” inspires several new hallmarks for the interiors, while the facade, with the lightness of its windows, will become; also a distinctive signature of future models. I can't wait to launch these “Lingotto-inspired” models in a year.
So, the Ingot becomes a sort of "manifesto" of the FIATs of the future. The theme of the track is; taken from the rounded shapesof the front of the very particular render that is; been shown. Rounded shapes that are also taken up in the interiors. A further render, in fact, shows a passenger compartment where the steering wheel and dashboard are characterized by having these shapes inspired by the Lingotto track. The dashboard is; however very simple and also includes a central screen intended for the infotainment system. Inside the steering wheel we find, instead, an instrument panel. The seats have very particular shapes that recall those of a deckchair. Since these are design studies, obviously the concepts are extremes but the future production models will be characterized by some features inspired by what FIAT has shown.
We still don't know what it will be. the first car that will take over again; this new design philosophy. However, the passenger compartment has some references to that of the FIAT Centoventi concept. Is the first model a small electric one? All that remains is to wait for further information to arrive on the car manufacturer's next models.
