Since 1884, the organization has pushed the line that Sweden does not should send weapons to belligerent states.
But now the management has decided to put the issue “on hold”, says Swedish Fred's chairwoman Kerstin Bergeå in an interview with Ekot.
– We do not push that question right now. But our role is to highlight the other thing that is also stated in the UN Charter, that the countries of the world have an obligation to handle conflicts by peaceful means, says Bergeå.
Swedish Peace's earlier criticism of arms exports was untimely with Swedish leaders, who are of the opinion that Swedish security benefits from Sweden financing the war in Ukraine.
The organization now supports that Ukraine has the right to defend itself with weapons, but internally the members have different views on whether this should be done with Swedish weapons or not.
