Domestic. People who receive welfare support in Gothenburg are no longer allowed to rent apartments in so-called particularly vulnerable areas, but are referred to other parts of the city, reports Göteborgs-Posten.

– If you really want to break the segregation, one must use all the tools in the toolbox. Maintenance requirements are a tool. Some may certainly have opinions about it, but basically it's about Gothenburg needing to become a more mixed city, that we need to live more mixed, says municipal board chairman Jonas Attenius (S) to GP.
Another ambition is to remove the Gothenburg ghettos from the police's list of “particularly vulnerable areas”.
For the municipal housing companies, it is now the case that a maximum of 20 percent of the tenants can go on welfare support and that income requirements are introduced for anyone who wants to rent an apartment in particularly vulnerable areas and certain other areas.
The Sweden Democrats have previously proposed a similar model where people who cannot support themselves are not allowed to rent housing within the public sector. The party's municipal councilor Jörgen Fogelklou now praises the red-greens for adopting a similar proposal, which he calls “sober”.
