– This is a crime whose circumstances are naturally difficult to investigate. The detonations took place at a depth of 80 meters on the seabed in the Baltic Sea, says Mats Ljungqvist.

The preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Security Police under the direction of the chamber prosecutor at the National Security Unit.

The American journalistic legend Seymour Hersh has previously singled out the USA for carrying out the explosion with the help of Norway.

The US and Germany have counters with their own story that it was unknown “Ukraine-friendly” people who were behind it all.

– There is a range of different information and reporting about the sabotage against the gas pipelines. The incident has obviously become a game plan for various influence attempts. These speculations are nothing that affects the preliminary investigation, which is based on the facts and the information that emerged from analyses, crime scene investigations and cooperation with authorities in Sweden and in other countries, says Mats Ljungqvist in a press release.

From before, the investigation has been able to determine that it is a case of serious sabotage. Analyzes from seizures made during the crime scene investigations show traces of explosives on several of the foreign objects that were examined.

– As for the incident, it is a matter of gross sabotage in international waters directed at infrastructure whose owners are not are linked to Sweden. The focus of the Swedish investigation is above all to see if any Swedish interest or Swedish security has been threatened, for example if Swedish territory was used to carry out the sabotage, says Mats Ljungqvist.

All seizures and all material are carefully reviewed and analyzed .

– We are now carrying out a number of concrete investigation measures. We work unconditionally and turn over all stones and leave nothing to chance. Our hope is that we will be able to determine who has committed this crime, but it can be stated that it is likely to be difficult given the circumstances, says Mats Ljungqvist.
