Domestic. The Institute for Human Rights was established as recently as last year following a decision by the Swedish government. Now the Sweden Democrats want to shut down the authority and also abolish grants for work against “racism and discrimination”, reports TV4 Nyheterna.

SD refers in internal documents from The government office that the institute is redundant and that “there are already many other bodies in Sweden that ultimately protect human rights, for example the judiciary, JK, JO and others”.

The party therefore believes that the Institute for Human Rights should be shut down.

– That a government's own authority should survey basic human rights. This is a strange order. This is not how you usually work with these issues, says Ludvig Aspling (SD) to TV4.

According to the documents, the SD also wants to phase out grants that should go to work against so-called racism and discrimination.

The officials at the government office, however, believe that both of SD's proposals should be rejected, according to TV4.

Märta Stenevi, spokesperson for the Green Party, reacts strongly to SD's proposal regarding the Institute for Human Rights.

– That you repeatedly attack the foundations of democracy, I think we should take that very seriously, she tells TV4.
