It seems that the Government has returned to work on the possibility to revise the structure of car incentives. The priority is of the Government would be to arrive at rejuvenating the Italian car fleet whose age is average, as we know, about 12 years old. During a question to the Chamber on the measures for the automotive sector, the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, spoke precisely of the incentives, opening up to a possible remodulation of their structure.
The minister recalled that “in 2022, resources of 127 million euros remained unused on electricity”. Speaking of 2023, however, Adolfo Urso highlighted that the “150 million earmarked for the purchase of endothermic cars with emissions between 61 and 135 g/km of CO2 ended in a few weeks, while of the 425 million allocated overall for electric and hybrid cars, only 33 million have been used to date, equal to less than 8%”.
FLEET OF CARS TO BE RENEWED
Given the trend in the use of resources, according to the minister, “the need now arises”. to prepare a remodulation of the incentives by taking note of the reality; and to make the best use of them in order to rejuvenate the fleet of cars on the road which is; old and highly polluting, the most old of Europe”.
According to Adolfo Urso, therefore, it is necessary to intervene “by acting on the purchasing power of those who have more money”. difficulty to replace their car with a new low-emission one.”
Precisely for this reason, it's a good idea. A discussion table has been set up at the ministry with sector operators where all possible solutions will be evaluated to ensure an effective and sustainable transition from an economic and social point of view, in the light of the principle of neutrality; technology.
We must encourage those who need state help to rejuvenate and scrap their old car, not those who have the power to do so. to afford to buy, we hope, an electric car.
It's not an electric car. the first time that the Government talks about the project to review the structure of incentives. It remains to understand what direction it will take. and if any changes will be applied already; in this 2023 or next year.
