In its legislative council referral, the government proposes that secret means of coercion should be able to be used in more cases.
It is stated that this is necessary to access gang criminals.
– Now we ensure that the law enforcement authorities get more effective tools to access the reckless crime committed within criminal networks. It is crucial that police and prosecutors get quick access to these tools. Therefore, we are now making sure that this is already in place this autumn, says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M).
During a preliminary investigation, covert means of coercion must be used to investigate several crimes whose total penalty value exceeds a certain level, according to the legislative council referral. The crime catalogs must also be expanded so that covert means of coercion can be used to investigate more types of crime.
Permits for covert room tapping and covert camera surveillance must be linked to a reasonably suspected person instead of a specific location.
Surplus information that has come to light through covert means of coercion must also be used for other purposes.
The changes to the law are proposed to enter into force on 1 October 2023.
The legal council referral is based on an agreement between The Sweden Democrats, the Moderates, the Christian Democrats and the Liberals.
