An adequate charging network is essential. essential for the diffusion of electric cars. Where is the Italian infrastructure? Apparently, the charging network for battery-powered cars in Italy continues to grow rapidly. In fact, according to the latest Motus-E report, in the first quarter of the year it was record growth was recorded. We are talking about 4,401 new charging points for public use installed which bring a national total of 41,173 charging points.
THE CHARGING POINTS DOUBLE IN THE LAST 2 YEARS
The first quarter of 2023 is closed. was very positive for the growth of the charging infrastructure in Italy with an average of about 340 new points installed per week. The trend in the period January-March 2023 contributed to reaching 13,316 charging points installed in the last 12 months (+47.8%). In the last two years, the recharge points in Italy have practically doubled, going from 20,757 to 41,173.
According to the report, of the current 41,173 recharging points in Italy, 35,980 are in alternating current with powers equal to or less than 43 kW. 2,000, on the other hand, are in direct current and have a power between 44 and 99 kW. Finally, 2,760 are in direct current and offer a recharge power of more than 100 kW.
The North of the countrycontinues to be the most "electrified", with most of the columns (57% of the total). In the South and in the Islands we find 21% of the infrastructures, while in Central Italy there are 22% of the recharging points. Looking at the distribution of the infrastructure at a regional level, in first place is Lombardy with 6,661 charging points. Followed by Piedmont (4,215), Veneto (4,169), Lazio (4,032) and Emilia-Romagna (3,732).

The Motus-E report also highlights the growth of infrastructure in Campania. Since the beginning of the year, the charging points in the Region have increased from 1,184 to 2,145 (+81%). What are the priorities for Motus-E that you have to work on? First of all on the motorway charging network. This infrastructure, in fact, is; still far from European levels. We also need to reduce the complexity of the process. and the length of the authorization procedures which are slowing down both the installation of the new columns and their entry into operation. Thirdly – a decisive intervention by the Government is necessary in order to be able to exploit the over 700 million euros of the PNRR destined for the charging infrastructure. Francesco Naso, general secretary of Motus-E, commented:
The new growth record of charging points is the result of a new record. a very important signal and market data show a growing propensity of motorists towards electric. Unfortunately we are still far from the market share levels of countries such as France and Germany, already in the order of 14-15%, but the numbers show that BEV registrations could still grow a lot with a rationalization of resources already in place. earmarked to stimulate demand. I'm thinking of incentives for individuals, but also for fleets.
