The woman, named Valerie, who lives in northern France, is one of millions of French people protesting Emmanuel Macron's increase in the retirement age.
She was also part of the “Yellow Vests” protest movement, which shook France during Macron's first term.
On March 21, before the president was to give a televised lunchtime interview to defend pension reform, Valerie posted on Facebook:
“This dirt will talk to you at 1:00 […] it's always on TV that we get to see this filth.”
A couple of days later, three police officers knocked on Valerie's door and arrested her. She was taken into custody and questioned.
– I asked them if it was a joke. It's the first time I've been arrested, Valerie told La Voix du Nord.
It turned out that Valerie was suspected of the crime of “contempt against a person holding public power”.
On June 20 will she be brought to justice. If she is convicted, she risks up to 12,000 euros in fines, but not prison, writes France24.
– They want to set an example, says Valerie to La Voix du Nord.
