In Hungary, a popular anti-pedophilia law was voted through in June 2021, which included bans on teaching minors about homosexuality and on advertising and mass media products depicting homosexuality to people under 18.

The law is based on facts showing that it is common for older gay men to seek contact with boys within the framework of this type of activity.

The EU Commission considers that the law violates several of the Union's rules, such as rules for the internal market and protection of the fundamental rights of individuals.

The Commission has brought Hungary before the European Court of Justice since the criticism of the law did not lead to any measures.

Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands have previously supported the intervention against Hungary , and now Sweden is also joining the process.

At the same time, Sweden insists on becoming allies with Hungary militarily. This through an entry into NATO which is currently blocked by Hungary and Turkey.
