The vote is municipal, which means that EU- citizens who do not hold French citizenship will also be allowed to vote.

Mayor Anne Hidalgo has described them as a source of concern and tension, and is advocating a ban.

The argument for the electric scooters has been their environmental friendliness, but it has been questioned by the opposing side.

Irresponsible use and increasing number of accidents have led the city's politicians to view the means of transport differently today than when the left in 2018 opened up to electric scooters in Paris as one of the first cities in the world.

The companies that rent out the electric scooters try to encourage young people to vote through free trips and payment of influencers. Participation is expected to be low, which may favor the prohibition side.
