But this year is extra exciting, because a major hardware announcement is also expected. In this article you can read what our expectations are for WWDC 2023. WWDC 2023 expectations in brief

These are WWDC 2023 expectations in brief:

  • iOS 17 – new version of operating system for iPhone, possibly suitable from iPhone 7
  • iPadOS 17 – new version of the operating system for the iPad, with many of the same improvements as in iOS 17
  • watchOS 10– latest update for the Apple Watch, possibly suitable from Apple Watch Series 4
  • tvOS 17 – new update for the Apple TV
  • macOS 13 – major update for the Mac
  • Preview Apple headset and operating system – Dé grand reveal of this event

Much of the presentation will revolve around the new software updates, but we expect that a good portion of the time will also be reserved for the much-discussed mixed reality headset. You don't have to count on other hardware such as new MacBooks right away. If they are announced at all around WWDC, it will probably be with a press release.

Apple Announces WWDC 2023: We'll Know Everything About iOS 17 And Apple's Headset By This Date

Apple Has Confirmed WWDC Date announced in 2023. This year will be an exciting edition, because Apple is expected to announce much more than software updates. We also expect to see Apple's mixed reality headset for the first time. Block your calendar, because these are the dates!

After the presentation on Monday, there will be online sessions for developers for the rest of the week. Here they can put the announced innovations into practice themselves, ask questions and get help with programming problems. Interesting discoveries are also regularly made here, so keep following iCulture.nl all week! In addition, the first betas will become available shortly after the keynote, which is also food for sleuths: they often contain all kinds of extra functions that Apple did not announce during the keynote. Reason enough to be extra alert to what is being discovered in the first full week of June.

For the first time in years, WWDC 2023 will be open to the public again: developers can register for a draw, which gives them the right to buy an admission ticket. The keynote will also be with an audience, but we expect Apple to also show some pre-recorded videos so that demos run smoothly.

#1 Announcing iOS 17

Our guess : sure

A large part of the presentation will be devoted to the latest iOS version for the iPhone. iOS 17 will be the successor to iOS 16. Initially, there were rumors that this would be little more than a bug fix update, as a large part of the developers had to help finalize the software for the Reality Pro headset. But later rumors indicate that there will be quite a few improvements, with Apple trying to check off as many of users' iOS 17 wish lists as possible.

In addition, we expect some AR functions for use on the iPhone, so that people who can't buy a headset yet can warm up a bit. And Apple may reveal the ability to use third-party App Stores, as they are forced to do so by the EU and authorities in other countries.

#2 Announcing iPadOS 17

Our guess: sure

With every iOS update comes a new iPadOS version. We hope that Apple will finally take big steps with iPadOS 17. There have been some minor improvements to multitasking on the iPad in recent years, but ultimately software remains the limiting factor on powerful devices like the iPad Pro. Although Apple introduced Stage Manager with which you have multiple windows at your fingertips, it worked less well on the iPad than on the Mac.

We would also like to see an updated access screen with multiple widgets and wallpapers, as was introduced previously on the iPhone. Adjustments for the home screen and more options for Mail and Calendar are also welcome.

#3 Announcing watchOS 10

Our guess: sure

What will Apple do with watchOS, now that the Apple Watch Series 3 is no longer a burden? That is the question: there may be new and improved apps, functions that are more attuned to the Apple Watch Ultra and Live Activities, as you also have them in the Dynamic Island of the iPhone. We would like to see a recovery function in the sports and health functions, so that you know when you have recovered enough to be able to exercise fanatically.

#4 Announcing tvOS 17

Our guess: sure

Although we have been a fan of the Apple TV for years, developments in tvOS software have come to a standstill. The big question this year is whether Apple will continue to support the Apple TV HD. This depends on whether Apple plans to add processor-intensive features that are too heavy for the Apple A8 chip. In any case, we hope for more smart home functions.

#5 Announcing macOS 13

Our guess: sure

What are we going to get after Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur, Monterey and Ventura? Apple still has the macOS Mammoth brand name on the shelf, though we wonder if the 2023 Mac update will be such a mammoth update as to warrant the name. Apple added some apps in the previous update, which were taken over from iPadOS and we expect a few more to be added this year.

#6 Apple headset

Our assessment: high probability

An AR has been rumored for years /VR glasses or headset from Apple. Apple originally planned to announce it during WWDC 2022, but never got around to it.

Everything now indicates that WWDC 2023 will be the time to get a preview of the Reality Pro headset. This is the first version, which is mainly aimed at developers and will cost around $3,000. A cheaper version will not be available until next year – or maybe even a little later. We're also likely to see a preview of the headset's operating system, as Apple wants developers to get to work creating interesting applications as soon as possible. This should ensure that the platform can get off to a flying start when the hardware is released. It is likely that some leading developers have already received the necessary tools, so that some upcoming apps can be shown during WWDC. ” />
