Pakistani Humza Yousaf, 37 , has been appointed as the new leader of the ruling Scottish National Party (SNP), succeeding Nicola Sturgeon as First Minister.

On Tuesday, he posted photos on social media showing him leading a group of Muslim men in prayer during his first evening at the official residence, Bute House.

“A special moment when I lead my family in prayer at Bute House, according to custom, after breaking the fast together,” he writes on Twitter.

The Scottish parliament elected Yousaf as the new prime minister on Tuesday, with 71 votes to his conservative opponent's 31. He is the first Muslim and the first non-white in the post.
