Apple Watch users can update their watch to watchOS 9.4. The update adds support for the new emoji and further improvements behind the scenes. 
The Apple Watch has some improvements. In watchOS 9.4, Apple not only adds the new emoji, but there is also an improvement for the Apple Watch Series 6 specifically. However, the update is available for all models (from the Apple Watch Series 4), because there are also various bug fixes and improvements made behind the scenes.

In iOS 16.4, Apple is adding new emoji and in order to view them properly on your Apple Watch, you must also have the latest software update for that. That has become watchOS 9.4. In addition to being able to see the emoji, thanks to the update you can also send them in iMessage, for example. Apple is going to add a series of new emoji in iOS 16.4. You can now look forward to hearts in three new colors and a head shaking face. The donkey, goose and jellyfish are new emoji from the animal kingdom, while the hyacinth and a piece of ginger come to complement the vegetable emoji.
But watchOS 9.4 also contains an improvement for users of the 44mm Apple Watch Series 6. Apple performs a battery calibration in the Apple Watch Series 6 as soon as you have updated the device. This recalculates the current condition of the battery and makes it a bit more accurate. You check the battery health via Settings > Battery > Battery condition. If you want to know how much the percentage differs after installing the update, check it before updating and take a screenshot and compare it with the percentage after the update is installed.

Download watchOS 9.4
To update, do the following on the paired iPhone:
- Go to My Watch > General.
- Tap Software Update and wait for the update to download.
- Put the Apple Watch on the charger and wait patiently for the update to install.

While the Apple Watch is updating, keep the paired iPhone nearby so as not to disturb the update process. Updating the Apple Watch can take hours, so please be patient. In any case, make sure that the connection to the charger is not broken. To complete the installation, it is required to connect the Apple Watch to the charger, so keep that in mind.
You can also update directly via the Apple Watch itself:
- Open the Settings app on the Apple Watch.
- Go to General > Software update.
- Wait for the Apple Watch to start searching for the update.
- Tap Download.
- After downloading, place the Apple Watch on the charger. The installation starts automatically.
