Philips Hue Go portable table lamp

We already wrote about this new Philips Hue Go table lamp in June 2022, which would appear at the end of the summer. The European release was pushed back to early 2023 due to delays in European certification, which also forced production to be postponed. In the US, the lamp went on sale as usual. The time has now come and you can also go to several Dutch stores, including Coolblue and Bol.com.

Remarkable grip
The lamp is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, with a rating of IP54. So you can safely leave it outside overnight, even if there is a rain shower in between. However, the charger should only be used indoors. You can choose from black or white with this new table lamp. Too bad the white version comes with a black charging station and a very striking green silicone grip on the handle. It is intended to make it easier to move. The black version has a silicone grip in a more inconspicuous gray.

Charging and battery life
As with the earlier Hue Go lamp, which looks like a hemisphere, you can charge the lamp and then use it wirelessly for a few hours. It lasts up to 48 hours on a battery, but in bright light this is reduced to 6 hours. You can fully charge the lamp in four hours with the included charging base, which is equipped with a 2-meter power cable. You can also connect the Philips Hue Go table lamp to the Hue Bridge, with which you can control up to 50 Philips lamps. Unfortunately, it is not possible to read the battery status via the Philips Hue app.

More details about the Philips Hue Go table lamp

The lamp is 35 cm high and has a widest part has a diameter of 14.2 centimeters. It weighs 975 grams. At a light setting of 4,000 Kelvin, the maximum brightness is 530 LUmen. With standard white, this decreases to 370 lumens, comparable to the earlier Hue Go. You can choose from 16 million colors.

You operate the lamp via the Hue app, linked to the bridge or via a direct Bluetooth connection. With a button you can switch between the different light settings. With this you can not only switch the lamp on and off, but also activate some preset scenes. Choosing your own scenes for the buttons is unfortunately not possible. Also good to know: the lamp can only be remotely controlled continuously when it is on the charger. If you use the lamp wirelessly, the transmitter module switches off after a while and can therefore no longer be controlled wirelessly. You then have to put the lamp back on the charging station or press a button.

Price and availability
The lamp shines downwards and is therefore especially useful to place on the table, so that you can read a book or have a good view of the boxes with nuts and chips if you spend a little longer outside in the evening. This also prevents you from being blinded when you're having a conversation. The lamp costs € 159.99 and that is a decent price for a fairly compact lamp. A non-smart lamp for outside on the patio table costs a lot less, but then you miss the control from your iPhone.
