During the late 19th century, a lighthouse keeper at name Hjalmar Söderlund said he found a Roman coin on the island. It was then met with skepticism. The finds of coins this March say he may have been right.

But now around 2,000-year-old coins have been found, described as a “very unusual archaeological find”.

According to Johan Rönnby, professor of marine archeology at Södertörn University, the coins may be remains from a sunken ship.
