For enthusiasts of cheap smart home brands, a new provider will soon be added. Ezviz will support HomeKit and that is good news, because Matter and Zigbee 3.0 will also be added.

Ezviz now with HomeKit

Ezviz is a brand that we previously ignored because it only works with Alexa and its own smart home system. And that's a pity, because they market a huge amount of accessories, mainly in the field of security cameras. You will also find the brand at the ‘better’ shops such as Coolblue. During their annual new product launch, Ezviz announced that they will be opening up their Ezviz Connect platform to HomeKit and Matter. For this you need the A3 Hub, which uses Zigbee 3.0.

Ezviz falls in the same price range as Meross, Aqara, Yeelight and similar brands: you can find them mainly at Amazon and you can get a product of pretty good quality for a reasonable amount. The future plans are comparable to Philips Hue and Aqara: the hub will be made suitable for Matter, so that all proprietary Zigbee accessories will be available via the Hub. A point of attention is that this only applies to Ezviz's own Zigbee accessories, not those from other brands.

You can wire the A3 Zigbee hub to your network via the Ethernet port in the device. There is a speaker in it, so that an alarm sound can be played if a connected accessory requests it. You can also add the hub to Apple's Home app, so that you can control the accessories via HomeKit. Of course, this only applies to product categories that are allowed in HomeKit (and not Ezviz's cordless vacuum cleaner).

In any case, these types of brands guarantee funny product photos:

In addition to the Ezviz A3 hub, the upcoming E6 camera will also work with HomeKit. It will be largely based on the existing C6 camera, with a 4 megapixel Sony Starlight lens, the ability to record 4K video, 360º pan & tilt and 8GB internal storage for video footage. As is often the case with Chinese brands, it may be a while before international versions of these products are available in stores. Usually the Chinese market is served first with a version that connects to servers in China. Until then, you are better off with the smart home system from Aqara, where the international Aqara M2 hub has already been adapted for Matter (and has been working with HomeKit for some time).
