“Sweden enters the world's most prestigious drag queen competition. Nine talents are ready to fight for the glamorous queen title. Who has what it takes, and who will be forced to leave the competition?”

This is how SVT markets its program “Drag Race Sweden”, where the viewers can follow these competing transvestites.

The first episode was broadcast directly after the Melodifestivalen semi-final and then received 726,000 viewers. When the premiere episode aired the next day in regular time, an additional 187,000 viewers were added, bringing the total to 913,000 viewers.

When episode two aired on Sunday, however, only 185,000 people chose to watch it, less than a quarter of the number who saw the first episode.

– Although the number of viewers is not decisive, we do want more people to discover the joy and creativity that permeates drag culture, says Christina Hill, responsible program director at SVT, to QX.

The number of viewers on SVT Play “unfortunately does not reach the goals at the moment either”, notes Christina Hill.
