The law would make it forbidden to inform residents of Israel about Jesus and try to get them to believe in him.

If the proposal is approved, the penalty for this type of conversation with Israelis, regardless of their religion, will be one year in prison if the Israeli who the person you are talking to is an adult. If the conversation with Jesus is held with someone under the age of 18, the penalty can, however, be increased to two years in prison.

Behind the proposal are the ultra-Orthodox Knesset members Moshe Gafni and Yaakov Asher, who form an important part of the government coalition led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu .

The duo refers to “missionary groups, mainly Christians” stepping up their efforts to convert Israelis to their faith.

After the conservative US news channel Newsmax reported on the matter, concerns have been raised among Christian Zionists in the United States, who have been taught to unconditionally support Israel for religious reasons.

Representatives of the Israeli government have now come out and announced that the proposal will not be adopted, writes the Times of Israel.
