If you send an important message in WhatsApp, you don't want this message to be snowed under by other messages. That's why WhatsApp is working on a new feature: pinning WhatsApp messages in a chat.

Imagine you meet with a group of friends in the WhatsApp group to go away for a weekend together. Then there is a good chance that you exchange all kinds of important messages with each other via WhatsApp, such as the address of the location, the date or planning of the weekend away. You can of course mark such an important message with a star to make it easier to find, but everyone should remember that. With the new upcoming WhatsApp message pinning feature, it will be a lot easier to keep your attention on important messages.

Pin WhatsApp messages in a chat

The new feature was discovered by WABetaInfo in the latest beta of WhatsApp for Android, but the feature will also be available in the iOS version. WhatsApp is still developing the new feature, so it will be a while before you can use it. Once the feature becomes available, a message's menu (which appears when you press and hold it) will have an option to pin the message. A small pin appears with the post once you've pinned it.

Then the message is pinned in thumbnail at the top of the chat. Once you tap that, you'll jump straight to the full post. The feature can be used in both one-on-one chats and group conversations. The pinned message appears at the top of the chat for each participant, so everyone can see the important message. This reduces the chance that someone will miss the important message. It is not yet entirely clear whether everyone can unpin the pinned message or if only the person who originally pinned the message can do so.

It is not yet known when the feature will be available to all users. Currently it is already possible to pin complete WhatsApp chats in your conversation overview. WhatsApp has been working on more different new features lately. WhatsApp, for example, wants to put a stop to inactive group conversations and is even working on a function to read newsletters in WhatsApp. >

Is your chat list in WhatsApp full of older group conversations that haven't been said for years? WhatsApp wants to put an end to this with a future feature. We are working on a new cleaning function for groups, where you can set a kind of expiration date yourself.
