In recent years, the range of game controllers for iPhone and iPad, among others, has increased considerably, partly because controllers from PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch are officially suitable. But in addition to the official controllers of the major game computers, the range of third-party controllers is also growing. 8BitDo is a well-known brand that makes such controllers and from now on six of the models of this brand are officially suitable for your iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV.

To make the controllers fully functional, make sure you install the latest software update for the controllers and your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV is running the latest software version. Apple support applies to these six 8BitDo controllers:

  • SN30 Pro for Android
  • SN30 Pro
  • Pro+
  • Pro 2
  • Ultimate 2.4G
  • Lite SE

You can connect all controllers wirelessly to your Apple device. You can also use the wired connection for Macs and iPads with USB-C. In total, you can connect up to four controllers at once (provided the game has a multiplayer option). The controllers are usable in all games that support MFi controllers (including Apple Arcade games) and you can customize how buttons work in the Bluetooth settings. At this time, vibration and motion sensors are not yet supported on Apple devices. On the Apple TV and iPad, you can also control the home screen via the controllers.

The six models all have differences. The SN30 Pro is reminiscent of the early SNES controller, but with two analog sticks. The Pro 2 is similar, but with two handles for more comfort. All controllers feature the standard buttons, such as analog sticks, a D-pad, shoulder buttons and action buttons.

To download the latest software update for the controller, use the upgrade tool from 8BitDo, available on Mac and Windows. After updating you can connect the controllers to your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV.
