A smart doorbell often sticks out a bit. The makers of the Dutch door lock Robin ProLine Compact have solved this by making a flat mounting plate.

Robin video doorbell with flat plate

The new mounting plate is made of aluminum and available in three colors: silver, space gray and black. To celebrate the arrival of this new confirmation, you now get a 10% discount on the purchase price, but even then it is still a big bite out of your budget. The doorbell costs € 825.13 and that is exactly why we have not paid much attention to it, even though this doorbell works with HomeKit and there are few alternatives. The doorbells from Netatmo and Arlo are the only alternatives if you're looking for HomeKit. If you have more than eight hundred euros left for this doorbell, you can pre-order it now. It will then be delivered from 3 April.

The normal ‘mounting box’ is 4.5 cm thick and therefore protrudes slightly from the wall or door. If you opt for the model with a flat mounting plate, it will be slightly thicker at 5.7 cm. But because you hide part of it in the wall or door, it still looks like it's wafer-thin. The new confirmation would be a much-requested wish from users.

The Robin ProLine is one of the few video doorbells that works with HomeKit Secure Video (HSV). Other doorbells sometimes work with HomeKit, but for the video images you will have to use the manufacturer's own solution: either an online storage space or a memory card. With Robin, the images are stored in iCloud, although this requires a paid iCloud subscription with the right amount of storage and you are stuck with the image quality that Apple has chosen, namely a maximum of 1080p.

Thanks to HSV you get facial recognition is also included, so you know if someone you know is at the door. You can speak to the visitor and also listen. The camera has a viewing angle of 130 degrees and the power supply is via Ethernet (PoE). The doorbell comes with a built-in box, set of screws, user manual, PoE adapter (100-240 Volt ac) and 10 meters of Cat 5E Ethernet cable.

The doorbell has a digital screen with background lighting, where you can set your name. You can also connect the doorbell with a built-in relay contact to an existing bell installation, so that you can also hear the bell when your iPhone is set to Do Not Disturb. You can control the speaker and microphone volume via the Robin ProLine app. You will also find the option to set the sensitivity of the push button and perform software updates.
