New design, inside and out

Clearly based on the Golf

When it comes to the exterior design, VW wants to attract buyers with a friendly face, plenty of dynamics and a new C-pillar signature for the ID. win 2all. The new C-pillar design, which is intended to resemble the taut tendon of a bow aimed in the direction of travel, was originally developed for the first Golf. The C-pillar is drawn into the so-called lateral slant of the silhouette, which in turn shows similarities to the Golf 7. The window line of the ID. 2all, on the other hand, is straight again, as has been the case at VW for decades. In addition, the ID. 2all like the Beetle and Golf the golden section. For example, the “Feature Line” running below the window sill lies exactly on the golden section of the ID. 2all.

Overall, the ID. 2all can also be a homage to the Beetle, Golf and Polo, according to Andreas Mindt, chief designer at Volkswagen, who designed the ID. 2all designed. The reference to the lines of the Golf can be clearly seen in the study, especially in the front area, while the rear is more in the direction of the Polo and T-Cross.

Backlit buttons and knobs for volume

When it comes to the interior design, on the other hand, VW wants to offer plenty of space, a high quality impression and self-explanatory operation. The infotainment system should therefore again rely on classic volume controls and a separate climate control panel under the display with illuminated buttons. In the center of the air conditioning control panel is a rotating cylinder that can be used to adjust the volume of the infotainment system. The touch display of the infotainment system is 12.9 inches and has a new menu structure.

Classic devices can also be operated via a 230 V socket.

Additional laptop compartment under the rear seat

In the study, not only can the rear seat backrest be folded down in a ratio of 40 to 60, but also the front passenger seat backrest. This results in a 2.20 meter long loading area. Without folding backrests, the trunk of the study offers a loading volume of 440 liters. Under the double loading floor in the trunk there is a rectangular storage box that can fit several crates of drinks, for example. There is another storage compartment with a volume of 50 liters under the rear seat bench, which can be folded up with one hand. According to VW, the charging cable and utensils such as first-aid kit, high-visibility vests and the tire mobility set are to be stowed here in the first place. In addition, according to VW, there is also enough space in this lockable compartment for larger devices such as laptops and tablets, which can also be charged there. If the rear seats are folded down, the trunk volume increases to 1,330 liters.

Focus on processing and software

With the previous ID models, Volkswagen had to put up with a lot of criticism of the workmanship and software. Points that were therefore raised during the presentation of the ID. 2all are addressed offensively. With the forthcoming models, Volkswagen wants to offer “top quality and workmanship, convincing software and digital services with real added value” again, according to Imelda Labbé, Brand Director for Sales, Marketing and After Sales.
