In the cars there is a a lot of research and technology, not only in terms of infotainment and powertrain, but also on elements on which it often no longer lends itself. so much attention. We are talking, for example, of the keys that we find in the passenger compartment, of the seats, of the armrests, of the upholstery and of the mats, as well as “invisible” elements such as connectors, cable covers and much more. In short, many elements of the cars with which we often interact every day, without knowing the great work that goes into it. behind their design. In fact, these items are made with polymers, yarns and plastics that have been specially developed after long research and testing processes. Among the most important realities who are involved in making these components which are then used in the automotive sector there is; RadiciGroup with whom we had a chat on the subject of recycling in the past.

AN ITALIAN EXCELLENCE

RadiciGroup has a long history behind it. Everything is started in 1920 when Pietro Radici founded the company which, at that time, was involved in the sale of textile products which he then began, over time, to produce as well. In 1960 an important novelty arrives. Indeed, the company begins to further diversify its activities, starting the polymerization of polyamide 6, which represents the entry into the chemical business with the objective of vertical integration of wool.

In 1970, the production of polyester began. In 1980, however, the production of chemical intermediates and the polymerization of polyamide 6.6 began. RadiciGroup thus enters the engineering plastics sector; start a business engineering and the production of energy from renewable sources. Over the years, the company places more and more attention to the development of sustainable products.

This is how you get there; to 2023, with the third generation of the Radici family at the helm of the company. The company today it can be count on approximately 3,000 employees and a network of over 30 units; production and sales offices in Europe, America and Asia. In 2022, the turnover is 50%. amounted to 1,542 million euros.

Mobility – it is evolving rapidly. Together with partners, the company is pursuing research and innovation with the aim of developing solutions to address future challenges, such as reducing emissions, transitioning to more efficient mobility more and more electric and sustainable and the reduction of the weight of the cars.

The RadiciGroup offer is; very broad: from technopolymers for high-performance components to synthetic fibers and non-woven fabrics for textile coverings. Versatile products with high performance, but also efficient and sustainable.

Specifically, technopolymers are ideal for the production of components that require lightness, but also chemical, mechanical and at high temperatures and are excellent substitutes for metals. Synthetic fibersfor cars in yarn or staple, they allow the creation of numerous textile products for vehicles such as seats, mats and covers. Instead, nonwovens are ideal for outdoor protective sheeting and soundproofing systems for the passenger compartment, air and liquid filtration. These components are made using innovative materials, which can be added to guarantee specific performances.

The themes of sustainability are important. and circularity are very important for this Italian industrial excellence. For this reason, the company is working on more fronts such as, for example, a continuous expansion of materials from bio and renewable sources, the study and innovation of recovery technologies for end-of-life products, collaboration with customers for the development of products designed according to eco-design guidelines and continuous improvement of production processes with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions.
