Italvolt has set its sights on the former Fiat industrial area of Termini Imerese > to build its battery factory in Italy. As we know, the company’s original plan was not. by Lars Carlstrom envisaged the construction of the factory at the former Olivetti site in Scarmagno. However, towards the end of January, Carlstrom said that a number of problems had emerged that would probably lead the company to choose a different site for the factory. In particular, Italvolt's number one had pointed the finger at the electricity grid of the chosen area which would not be adequate for the factory that should be built.

Apparently, Italvolt has already; identified an alternative site and Carlstrom has expressed interest in investing in the Termini Imerese area.

THE PROJECT

Lars Carlstrom, therefore, wants to get his hands on the former Fiat factory that is now the site of the project. owned by of Blutec which has been around for a long time; in receivership. As reported by ANSA, the extraordinary commissioners are preparing the tender for the assignment of the industrial area which could be published after the convening of the table, scheduled for the first days of April, at the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy .

However, Italvolt would not be the only one interested in this site. The first to come forward to take over the establishment is; was the Ukrainian entrepreneur Sergey Shapran, who intends to build a factory for the production of aluminum with an investment of 50 million euros which would give work to 300 employees.

As regards the Italvolt project, Lars Carlstrom, presenting it to the trade unions and the authorities of the premises, promised a investment of over 3 billion euros for the construction of a plant to produce battery cells. Once fully operational, the site would employ around 2,000 people. An ambitious project watched with interest but also with very caution by the unions. As Antonio Nobile general secretary of Fim Cisl Palermo Trapani and Dino Cirivello Head of Cisl Termini Imerese explain, it does not intend to wait for public funds but would start with private investments.

Italvolt would put 5 million euros on the plate, a very low figure if you consider the total investment, but the company is ready to sell. confident of being able to find all the necessary financing. However, trade unionists are waiting for concrete documents and further clarifications, not only from Italvot but also from other companies in the sector. which point to the Termini Imerese area.

We cannot therefore express detailed opinions, also because the experiences of the tormented past of this industrial area teach us that keeping our feet on the ground and waiting for concrete acts is the best way to do it. the only thing to do. Meanwhile, the company will participate to the tenders for the assignment of the areas which should arrive by April.

Therefore, all that remains is to wait and understand if Italvolt will really move the his project from Piedmont to Sicily.
