The Outlast Trials: Co-op Horror Game enters Early Access in May

The Outlast Trials is the new multiplayer horror game from Montreal-based Outlast creators Red Barrels. The title was originally planned for 2022, but the game's release was postponed. The Outlast Trials is scheduled to start in Early Access in May this year.

Multiplayer horror in the Outlast universe

Unlike Outlast and Outlast 2, The Outlast Trials will offer not only the classic single player but also a fully-fledged co-op mode in which players with up to three fellow combatants can fear. The scary game was announced in December 2019, and a closed beta test phase finally followed in October 2022. The game is now scheduled to be released on May 18th on Steam and the Epic Games Store, initially in the Early Access program.

The developers use the Cold War as a setting, with The Outlast Trials set in the same universe as the previous Outlast games. However, in new titles, players no longer slip into the skin of an investigative journalist, but are taught to fear as guinea pigs in captivity at the Murkoff Corporation. The ethically highly questionable company plans tests on methods of brainwashing and mind control – of course in the name of progress, science and profit; respect for human rights, on the other hand, is not necessarily a priority.

The gameplay is also based on the Outlast predecessors, so players in The Outlast Trials have to avoid opponents, hide from them and flee from them. However, the Murkoff Corporation will provide tools that players can use to improve stealth skills, create escape opportunities or slow down opponents, for example.

The system requirements are not to be feared

The requirements for your own PC hardware are not particularly high. For Full HD and 60 FPS with high graphics settings, a computer with mid-range hardware from 2019 is sufficient. For the time being, only English and French will be available as languages ​​for the user interface and soundtrack, but German can be set as the subtitle language.
