“Classic woman-making” is called the campaign, which the defense launched during International Women's Day on Wednesday.

“In the Swedish Armed Forces, it is classic for women to lead units, make decisions under heavy pressure and defend Sweden's interests,” writes the authority on social media.

The campaign highlights that women have been in the Swedish Armed Forces within voluntary organizations and in civil services since the beginning of the 20th century.

“In 1962, the first woman did military service in the air force, which was an exception at the time. In 1989, the Riksdag decided that both women and men could be recruited to command positions in all branches of the armed forces,” writes the defense on its website.

The campaign includes portraits of female officers in advertisements in public places and in, among others, Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet.

On Twitter, however, many are critical of the initiative and the slogan.

“Why do you have to make things up that aren't true?” asks one user.

Another person states that the Armed Forces are now making themselves “a laughing stock everywhere”:

“Depressing to see the total decay of the organization.”

” Sweden's interests? Now the misprint has probably arrived. You mean the interests of the United States? Understand that it's easy to mix things up, but right should be right,” tweets another user.
