Law & Right. The Legislative Council has criticized the new terror legislation and advised the government not to proceed with the proposal, but despite this the bill has now been tabled in the Riksdag. This provokes strong reactions.

Participating in and financing participation in a terrorist organization should be punishable. This is according to a bill that the government submitted to the Riksdag on Thursday.
The legislative changes, which are proposed to enter into force on June 1, are considered to be of great importance in speeding up Sweden's NATO application.
The Legislative Council recommended the government not to proceed with the legislation in its then form, but it was done anyway.
Leif Gäverth, one of the three justices who wrote the opinion on behalf of the Legislative Council, is very critical of the government's actions. “The product doesn't measure up,” he tells Aftonbladet.
He emphasizes that these are issues of principle that have been highlighted in the Legislative Council's opinion. Gäverth also believes that the government's dismissal of the Legislative Council's views could lead to a devaluation of the council's importance.
– Kristersson went out and answered only an hour or so after we sent in the opinion. Of course, he hadn't had time to read it, that goes without saying. The fact that people so quickly dismiss the Legislative Council as saying 'we don't care, we drive anyway' is a bit simplified, that's what he's saying, he tells Aftonbladet.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) has claimed that the law has nothing to do with the NATO accession.
The Legislative Council has, among other things, remarked that it could become a crime for journalists to “wallop” an organization, but according to Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M), this has been changed in the bill. The Legislative Council and the government have also had different views on the definition of “terrorist organization”.
