Update 10 March 2023: Starting today, developers can choose from 900 different price points in the App Store. Integers such as €1 are now also possible. This increases the number of options by a factor of 10, giving them more flexibility. Below €10 intervals of €0.10 are possible and above that there are jumps of €0.50. This continues up to €50. Amounts up to €10,000 require Apple's approval.
Lower prices in certain regions
The developers will also have more options to regulate their pricing regionally. For example, they can choose to ask for a lower price in India and Africa and to offer their apps for a friendly price in Ukraine. Developers have until May 9, 2023 to choose a base price per region or country. If they do not, the current price in the United States will be used as the starting point. The new pricing structure will be implemented in 175 App Stores worldwide.

900 price tiers for App Store apps
Since the recent price increase in October 2022, there have been fewer ‘beautiful’ prices in Europe. Apps that previously cost €0.99 went up to €1.19 and apps costing €1.99 now cost €2.49. Apple still tries to limit itself to €.49 and €.99, but that does not always work out well for users, with price increases of more than 25%. Today it is announced that 700 new price levels’ are added, of which 600 can be chosen immediately by the developers, while another 100 can be used on request.
Developers therefore have more choice when it comes to their pricing. It would have been done under pressure from laws and regulations from various countries, so that price levels can no longer be artificially limited. In the US, you can now mark down apps to $0.29 and make them as expensive as $10,000. It is also possible to use round amounts such as $1.00 instead of $0.99. The changes take effect immediately for subscriptions that renew automatically and will also apply to apps and in-app purchases from spring 2023. It applies to 175 markets in which Apple operates and it means that developers can now choose from a total of 900 price tiers.
Apple's reasoning for choosing fixed prices was that it was clearer for consumers. At the same time, companies such as Spotify criticized that it was too limited. Spotify would also like to give special offers or discounts to certain customers, but it can't.
Developers wishing to charge an amount between $1,000 and $10,000 can do so, but must submit a request, including an explanation of why the amount is reasonable.
