This way, you use tactile and audible time on the Apple Watch

You can display the time in several ways on the Apple Watch. In this tip, we explain how to set tactile time, chimes and spoken time on your Apple Watch and your iPhone.

Audible and tactile time

From the beginning of the Apple Watch, the Taptic Engine has provided a new way to interact with Apple's smart watch. You can feel every notification coming in with a subtle tap on your wrist. But you can also feel the time thanks to the tactile time function. You can also have your Apple Watch speak the time thanks to audible time. Handy if you actually find the screen just too small for your eyes. We explain how to set tactile and audible time on the Apple Watch.

  • Tapable time options
  • Set tactile time
  • Set audible time< /li>
  • Tunisal bells

Tactile time: these are your options

Tactile time works with the built-in Taptic Engine of your Apple Watch. It can not only be useful if you have a (slight) visual impairment. Tactile time also comes in handy if you just want to know the time quickly without looking at your Apple Watch. This also works in silent mode.

Every full hour you get a tangible vibration signal. In addition, you can request the time at any time by placing two fingers on the dial. The time can then be tangibly reported in three different ways:

Numbers
The Apple Watch ticks long for every 10 hours and short for every hour after that. After that, the Apple Watch taps long for every ten minutes and short for every minute after that. See the example below.

Short
The Apple Watch ticks long for every 5 hours and short for the other hours. Then the Apple Watch taps long for every quarter hour.

Morse code
The Apple Watch taps each digit of the time in Morse code.

Apple uses the above descriptions to explain the function. But maybe it's still not completely clear how it works. That's why we're giving an example.

Example
When it is 23:17, the Apple Watch at the ‘Numbers’ successively give the following taps:

  • 2 long taps (2 x 10 hours) = 20 hours
  • 3 short taps (3 x 1 hour) = 3 hours
  • 1 long tap (1 x 10 minutes) = 10 minutes
  • 7 short taps (7 x 1 minute) = 7 minutes

So a total of 23 hours and 17 minutes.

To do this, you hold down two fingers at the same time on your watch face. Then you will hear a voice saying the time.
