Domestic. The reason for the escalating gang violence in Sweden is “a historical male norm”, according to the former crime commissioner Fredrik Gårdare.

Fredrik Gårdare works since this summer with a project against violence and threats within the sports movement, and is interviewed in Aftonbladet as some kind of expert on gang crime.

– Violence is a norm. A historical male norm. We should use violence because it is good and solves things. It makes us more powerful. We get a capital of violence, he tells the newspaper.

According to Gårdare, it has “always” looked like this. He describes how in the 90s he visited police officers who were fighting the gangs in the USA:

– It was exactly the same problems and norms there.

Another reason for the development is that the police “lost a move” in that they reorganized in the middle of the 10th century, says Fredrik Gårdare.

He is concerned that politicians today are talking about tougher measures. He himself advocates a soft line against gang criminals and ensuring that they are “rehabilitated”.
