– I am personally happy that The Koran, this globally important text, will become more accessible in my home country and in Europe, says the Swedish ambassador Joachim Bergström to Benar News.
The government in Malaysia has set aside close to the equivalent of 25 million kroner for the project, which consists of translating the Koran into different languages.
To Sweden, the Muslim country will send 20,000 copies of the book.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim states that it is, among other things, about countering ” Islamophobia” and spread better understanding of Islam.
– It has become a problem because those who are against Islam never read the holy book. So we have to go back to the text or at least the translation to save and enlighten others about the deeper meaning of the religion, says Ibrahim to Benar News.
Joachim Bergström highlights for the newspaper his own fight against so-called Islamophobia.

– I even own several copies of the Koran myself. I have spent many years of my life living and working in the Muslim world – including as Sweden's special envoy to combat Islamophobia between 2016 and 2021 – and I am convinced that knowledge and dialogue are the right way to promote understanding and peace, he says.
