Domestic. The National Board of Health and Welfare introduces new recommendations on households' self-preparedness of medicines. Now patients with ongoing drug treatment are asked to prepare for a longer period of readiness at home.

The new recommendation applies to drugs and consumables prescribed by healthcare professionals .
The purpose, according to the National Board of Health and Welfare, is to strengthen preparedness and reduce the vulnerability of patients, healthcare and pharmacies.
– The goal is to reduce the risk that the patient's treatment has to be interrupted if it becomes a temporary disturbance or deficiency. The risk of an increased burden on healthcare and pharmacies is also reduced. The recommendation is part of society's work to ensure everyone's access to medicines and consumables, says owner Urban Nylén, medical adviser at the National Board of Health and Welfare, in a press release.
The recommendation applies to patients who are constantly treated with prescription medicines. For example, medicines used for high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes or other.
The same also applies to patients who use prescribed consumables for constant use, for example stoma bandages, equipment for controlling blood sugar or other.
