AMD has yet to respond to the new Xeon W-3400 and W-2400 from Intel. This is codenamed Storm Peak and should appear as Ryzen Threadripper 7000. The tool CPU-Z is already gearing up for the new workstation processors.

As can be seen from the release notes for the new version CPU-Z 2.05 (download below), Added “interim support” for the “AMD Storm Peak platform” to the popular processor info tool.

  • Intel Xeon Sapphire Rapids platform.
  • Preliminary support for AMD Storm Peak platform.
  • Zhaoxin KX-6000G/4 CPU.
  • Intel Core i9-13900/K/F/KF, Core i7-13700/K/F/KF, Core i5-13600/K/F/KF, Core i5-13500, Core i5-13400 and Core i3-13100
  • Intel ARC A770, A750, A580 (ACM-G10) and A380 (ACM-G11) GPUs
  • Support for multipliers > 64x on AMD Ryzen 7000
  • Preliminary support for NVIDIA RTX 4000 GPUs

Release Notes zu CPU-Z 2.05

But that doesn't mean that the new workstation CPUs are about to be launched. AMD had only indicated the year 2023 in a roadmap for the Ryzen Threadripper with Zen 4 architecture. September 2023 was later mentioned in the rumor mill for their market launch.

Entries in the database of the scientific project Einstein@Home provided information about the equipment of the alleged Threadripper 7000 last autumn. Engineering samples with 64 and 96 cores were listed there. It is obvious that the maximum number of cores will increase compared to the Threadripper 5000 Pro. With 96 cores, the maximum of the probably closely related server counterparts of the Genoa family (AMD Epyc) would be offered.

The new thread rippers should also share the LGA-6096 socket with these and also support DDR5 RAM and PCIe 5.0. The previous platform with the WRX80 socket, which was only introduced in March 2022, would then have a very short lifetime. This is currently led by the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX with 64 Zen 3 cores.

Intel now has serious competition up its sleeve with the Xeon w9-3495X. Although it “only” offers 56 cores, these are faster per clock than Zen 3 and PCIe 5.0 as well as DDR5 make the platform more modern overall than AMD currently has.

It was also rumored that the Storm Peak CPUs were divided into two groups: the HEDT offshoots are said to have a 4-channel memory interface, 64 PCIe 5.0 lanes and OC functionality, while the WS offshoots have a Set 8-channel interface and 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes, but do without OC functions.
