OnePlus 11 Concept: Smartphone with liquid cooling and foldable planned

With the OnePlus 11 Concept, the company is showing at MWC 2023 how a smartphone with liquid cooling could be implemented. Piezoelectric pumps transport a coolant through small channels on the back of the smartphone. OnePlus has also promised a foldable smartphone.

Piezoelectric pumps convey coolant

OnePlus calls the cooling system running on the back of the smartphone the “Active CryoFlux System”. It is said to be superior to the passive solutions used to date, so that the smartphone can deliver high performance over the long term without high temperatures or throttling occurring. The coolant is pumped through the tiny channels by two piezoelectric pumps. As the manufacturer explains, these pumps only take up 0.2 cm³ of the housing volume, so that the weight and overall depth of the OnePlus 11 Concept should not stand out negatively.

Glass unibody makes cooling visible

So that the channels filled with blue-colored coolant are visible to the user, the OnePlus 11 Concept not only has a classic glass back, but also a glass unibody that allows a view of the technology and includes both the back and the sides of the smartphone. It remains to be seen to what extent a glass unibody can also be implemented in the series apart from a concept device like the OnePlus 11 Concept. However, the design is ideally suited for demonstrating the cooling system. The design of the smartphone also includes a new decor for the camera system, which was applied using an etching process.

OnePlus plans foldable smartphone

In addition to the OnePlus 11 Concept, the company also announced today that it intends to launch a foldable smartphone in the second half of 2023. The foldable should also become a flagship smartphone, analogous to the top devices offered so far, such as the 11, OnePlus explained at the “From Fast & Smooth to Beyond” panel at MWC. Nothing short of competing at the forefront of foldable smartphones, said Kinder Liu, President and COO of OnePlus.

The company also intends to have a broad ecosystem of device classes. In the next three to five years, they want to establish themselves on the market with smartphones, tablets, wearables, televisions and Internet-of-Things devices. Further information on the foldable smartphone is to be published in the coming months.

Furthermore in the patent dispute with Nokia

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen to what extent OnePlus will be able to offer new devices in this country, especially for the German market. The patent dispute with Nokia has still not been resolved by the parties, so that smartphones from OnePlus and Oppo have not been allowed to be offered in this country for six months.
