On February 28th, Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Ryzen 9 7900X3D will be the first two Ryzen 7000 with 3D V-Cache. In contrast to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and its predecessor Ryzen 7 5800X3D, they offer two chiplets (CCD), but only one carries the additional L3 cache. A beta BIOS from Asus lets users intervene in thread allocation.
Twitter user HXL shared screenshots of beta BIOS variants for Asus X670 motherboards, apparently showing how to tune the algorithm for prioritizing one CCD on an AMD Ryzen 7000X3D with two CCDs. Source is a post in the Asus community that contains beta BIOS versions for a number of boards.

Two CCDs, only one with 3D V-Cache – that works fine ?
After it became known at CES 2023 in January that the new AMD Ryzen processors with 3D V-Cache in this generation, in contrast to the predecessor, will also be offered with more than 8 cores (and thus also with two CCDs), it was initially unclear how optimal performance can be achieved depending on the software used. On paper, the new CPUs combine the advantages of the large cache on one die with those of a higher clock on the other die. AMD has so far kept a low profile on the question of how the optimal assignment is made.
Asus (and Co.?) give users the choice
Whether officially released or on their own, mainboard manufacturers will apparently – possibly only on selected boards – allow the user to intervene in the algorithm and thus have a say in which cores are assigned which tasks under which conditions. The functions documented to some extent in the Asus forum are definitely not for average users, but as a BIOS function they should be able to bypass everything that Windows or the driver under Windows decides. The coming week will show how good AMD's approach without manual adjustments is.
New BIOS variants and chipset drivers for Ryzen 7000X3D
In principle, the BIOS and a new chipset driver should play a role. ASRock already offers version 5.01.29.2026 for download, which according to HLX also contains the new component AMD 3D V-Cache Performance Optimizer Driver in version 1.0.0.7. Mainboard manufacturers are also rolling out new BIOS variants these days, which are likely to target the new X3D processors.
Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Ryzen 9 7900X3D will be released next Tuesday , with tests expected on Monday. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D with 8 cores and therefore only one CCD will be released on April 6th.
