Google has a handy app that allows you to remotely control your computer with your iPhone and iPad. Chrome Remote desktop gives you remote access to a Mac, Windows or Linux computer. However, there are some things to take into account before it actually works. In this guide we explain how to pair the app with a Mac.

This is what you need for Chrome Remote Desktop

  • A Mac with the latest version of macOS
  • An iPhone or iPad with iOS 14 or later
  • Google Chrome browser for Mac
  • Chrome Remote Desktop App for iOS
  • A Google Account

 

We're only discussing how Chrome Remote Desktop works with the Mac here. Windows and Linux computers are also supported, but as an Apple website, that's out of our scope.

Step 1: Set up remote access to your Mac

How to set up remote access to your Mac.

  1. Open the Chrome browser on your Mac.
  2. Go to remotedesktop.google.com/access in the address bar.
  3. Under Set up remote access, click Download.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to download and install Chrome Remote Desktop.
  5. You may need to enter your Mac's password to access it. to Chrome Remote Desktop. You may also be prompted to change security settings in Preferences.

Step 2: Access your Mac remotely

You are now going to access your Mac from your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the Chrome Remote Desktop app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap the computer you want to access. If a computer is dimmed or grayed out, it is offline or unavailable.
  3. Connecting.
  4. Use Trackpad mode or Touch mode to control the computer remotely. You can switch at the bottom right via the More menu.

  3. Under Get Support, click Download.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install Chrome Remote Desktop.
  5. Go to Get Support and select Generate Code.
  6. Copy the code and send it to the person you want to give access to your computer.
  7. Select Share to get full access to your computer.
  8. Click Stop Sharing to end a sharing session.

If you share your computer, you will be asked again every 30 minutes if you want to continue sharing. share.
