Domestic. A dissenting appeals court now chooses to sentence 23-year-old Ahmed from Syria to deportation after he raped two different women while calling them “whores”. One of those who wanted to let Ahmed stay was committee member and regional politician Kristina Ramsälv Waldenström (V).
– This person had integrated well, she tells Kungsbackaposten.

Fria Tider reported at the end of December about how Ahmed escaped deportation when the Gothenburg district court convicted him of rape against two different women.

The first rape for which the 23-year-old was convicted took place in June 2022 at a forest path in Kullavik in Kungsbacka municipality. The woman says that during the rape Ahmed strangled her several times and pulled her hair hard.

Another rape was committed on 2 October 2022 against another woman at Gothia Towers in Gothenburg. The crime involved violence and the Syrian allegedly penetrated the woman with a toothbrush.

Both women state that they were repeatedly called “whores” in connection with the events. “Say you're my little whore”, “damn whore, do your job” and the like, he allegedly said.

Now the Court of Appeal has taken up the case and increased the sentence for Ahmed, to five years in prison. Court of Appeal also sentences the 23-year-old to deportation without a time limit.

However, the court disagreed: Two politically appointed jurors considered that the rapist should be allowed to stay in Sweden after serving his sentence.

One of them was Kristina Ramsälv Waldenström (V), who is a deputy in the regional council in the Västra Götaland region. Her objection was:

“[Ahmed] has stayed in the country for a long time and has learned Swedish. He has also established himself in the Swedish society through gainful employment. It is not proportionate that he is deported. The deportation request must therefore be rejected.”

For Kungsbackaposten, she develops her reasoning:

– This person had integrated, knew the language perfectly , had work and had his immediate family here. So my overall assessment is that it is not reasonable to deport him.
