Why you should wait a while with iOS 16.3.1 if you use Google Photos

Apple released iOS 16.3.1, but if you use Google Photos you will soon run into problems. The app appears to crash immediately for many users. But a solution seems near. Benjamin Kuijten | iCulture.nl – 14 February 2023, 8:54 whatsappfacebooktwittertelegramlinkedinmailprint

Apple regularly releases software updates, and occasionally releases a bug fix update. With major updates such as to iOS 16, it is sometimes wise to wait a while before updating, because not all apps are optimized. This is usually not the case with smaller updates, because Apple only fixes some minor bug fixes there that have no impact on the operation of apps. You can often update immediately and that is often recommended in the case of important security updates. But with iOS 16.3.1 you have to be careful, if you at least use Google Photos.

Google Photos crashes on iOS 16.3.1

Shortly after the release of the iOS update, several users on Twitter complained about spontaneous app crashes of the Google Photos app. The app crashes immediately after you open it, if iOS 16.3.1 is installed on your device. It's not clear what exactly is causing the problem. Not everyone would be affected, but a large part of the users say they are affected by the problem.

Fortunately, a solution doesn't have to take long anymore. Google tells the Verge that they are aware of the problem. Fortunately, there is no need for a new iOS update, because Google says it will be solved in a next update of the Google Photos app. Google is currently working on version 6.23.1 which will resolve the issue. We expect that update to be available to everyone shortly. We will update this article as soon as the update is available in the App Store.
