Apple regularly releases new software updates and often contain some new features. That was the case with iOS 16.2, for example, and also iOS 16.3 that recently appeared. Sometimes an iOS update offers nothing new, but it is still recommended to update it soon. For example, if security has been improved or problems have been solved. The latter is the case with iOS 16.3.1, which is now ready for your iPhone. An update is also available for the iPad in the form of iPadOS 16.3.1.
The latest iOS update is currently rolling out. It may therefore take a while before the update is visible to you. Apple usually rolls out the updates from 19:00 Dutch time. It makes no sense to report in the comments that you don't see the update yet. See also our article on iOS installation issues.
iOS 16.3.1 now available
iOS 16.3.1 fixes bugs and other issues. In recent months, users have encountered several problems. Crashes, apps that respond slowly and other visual errors are unfortunately still common. Apple will not have solved all problems with this update, but Apple has at least removed a number of bugs. For example, there was an issue that caused iCloud settings to sometimes not respond or display incorrectly. Apple may also solve the problem that prevented some users from making an automatic iCloud backup. In addition, Apple has made optimizations for crash detection. In recent times, there have been several false reports at popular ski resorts where the iPhone falsely detected a crash and called in the emergency services.

Skiers and snowboarders appear to activate the Crash Detection function on the iPhone and Apple Watch during winter sports. Even after optimizations in the algorithm, the erroneous reports continue to come in. Still, a rescue worker recommends leaving the feature enabled.
It is now also clear which security improvements Apple has implemented. Two security vulnerabilities have been patched, affecting the kernel and WebKit. The latter leak allowed a rogue website to execute malicious code. Apple is aware that this vulnerability has been exploited, although it is not known to what extent. In any case, it is recommended to install the update quickly.
Updates have also been released for other devices:
- macOS Ventura 13.2.1
- watchOS 9.3.1
- tvOS 16.3 .2 and HomePod 16.3.2

Why don't I see the update (yet)?
It can sometimes take a while before you see the update on your device. This has to do with the fact that Apple is rolling out these updates in phases. You can read about this in this article: This is why it takes longer for iOS updates to be installed automatically.
