The ban applies in the De Wallen area, the most famous of the so-called red light districts and with widespread brothels.

Restaurants and bars are also forced to close earlier.

< p>Local residents have complained for years about drunk people, public urination, hashish smoking and a violent atmosphere in the area. Other drugs also come into circulation because of cannabis smoking,

The Netherlands is otherwise usually considered a liberal pioneer country. Already in 2006, it approved its first batch of pedophiles, and in 2019, it was ahead of Canada in the suicide issue and gave a 17-year-old girl state assisted death after she was gang-raped by immigrants.

The ban comes into effect in mid-May.
