Triumph Chrome Collection, special series with a touch of craftsmanship?

Andrea Buzzoni, General Manager and CEO of Triumph Motorcycles Italia, describes the new Chrome Collection range as “motorcycles daughters of Triumph's passion for the history of custom, attention to detail and quality”. of each process. Typical characteristics of the Modern Classics range, which combines contemporary design with nostalgic echoes of the deep and rich history of our brand”.

We are talking about a series of limited edition models, produced with artisan level care and which will be listed only in 2023. There are ten interpretations that feature an exclusive Chrome Edition scheme, specifically chosen to reflect the history of each model.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

Chrome plating, underlines the manufacturer, requires 5 additional hours of work for each motorcycle, including the very delicate hand polishing as a final step. In fact, the manufacturer has chosen to use an ancient chrome plating technique, the complicated and expensive traditional process, discarding the galvanic process where the chrome plating greatly increases the thickness of the original part.

The modern technology used has also been discarded in the automotive world, the so-called “flash chrome” which allows only very thin layers of chromium to be deposited, between 0.003 and 0.007 mm thick. It's cheap but it doesn't allow you to create a chrome plating as beautiful as the classic one.

How does the chrome plating process work? The procedure is composed of a series of various baths in different solutions, in which the pieces to be chromed are subsequently immersed. The first of these baths have the purpose of degreasing and cleaning the pieces. Subsequently the tanks and the other pieces are immersed in an electrolytic solution of nickel, in which they remain for a long time to create an initial coating of this metal which has the purpose of uniforming the surface of the article at a microscopic level to facilitate the subsequent adhesion of the chrome. Then the pieces are washed again. At this point you can; apply the chrome layer.

Next, a masking is applied by hand to pass a specialized primer with a delicate spray painting. Final step, we move on to manual polishing. Here are the models of the Triumph Chrome Collection.
