HomePod 2023 teardown proves: it's more repairable

iFixit has performed a teardown of the HomePod 2023. Surprisingly, this one is slightly easier to repair than its predecessor. Gonny van der Zwaag | iCulture.nl – 10 February 2023, 8:52 whatsappfacebooktwittertelegramlinkedinmailprint

iFixit often does a teardown on new Apple products to show what's inside. This is also the case with the second generation HomePod, which has been on sale since last week for €349. A video shows that the 2023 version is very similar to the original HomePod. Apple has made the design a bit more accessible for repair, by using fewer adhesives. The original HomePod still required special cutting tools, but that is no longer necessary. iFixit was pleasantly surprised at how easily they opened the HomePod 2023. If you want to repair it yourself at a later time or replace a part, that should be possible.

Inside, iFixit found the S7 processor and the LED lights that illuminate the display on top. There is also a large internal subwoofer, a board for the amplifier, a heat sink, power supply and five tweeters. As you know, there used to be seven.

iFixit shows how the woofer moves, even when the volume is quite low. They also demonstrate the temperature and humidity sensor located on the bottom of the HomePod. This is identical to the sensor in the HomePod mini.
