Foreign. People who perceive themselves as less attractive than others are more likely to continue wearing a mouth guard even when it is no longer required. This is according to a new study published in Frontiers in Psychology, reports the New York Post.

“Our results consistently showed that self-perceived unattractive individuals were more willing to wear a mask, because they believed it would benefit their attractiveness,” write the authors of the study.
The researchers note that mask wearing may go from being a protective measure during the corona pandemic to a kind of “self-presentation tactic in the post-pandemic era”, writes the New York Post.
However, the study emphasizes that the link between self-perceived attractiveness and the propensity to wear a face mask only applies in situations where people are highly motivated to make a good impression.
The result is based on three studies that examined people in the US in job interview situations.
People with higher self-perceived attractiveness are instead less likely to wear a face mask because the mask makes it harder for them to make a good impression on others.
